Biography
Cristina Fonseca Martel is a Senior Research Associate and a member of the Social Sciences and Nutrition team based in Lima, Peru, since 1989. With over 30 years of experience, she has expertise in socio-economic diagnostic and impact studies, participatory research, gender, and family agriculture. Her work also includes the management and implementation of bilateral research and development projects in Andean and urban agri-food systems, covering significant topics such as food security, nutrition, biodiversity, value chains, climate change, ICTs for agricultural extension, plant health, and agroecology.
Notable contributions include the implementation of the Participatory Chain Approach (PCA) for native potatoes in Peru, aimed at developing commercial, technological, and institutional innovations, including Technical Standards for potatoes and their derivatives, and National Potato Day. She has also contributed to the release of the Unica potato variety and the sweetpotato varieties Cañetano and INA 100, which are widely disseminated in the country’s production areas. Cristina is the author of more than forty publications.
