Biography

Nozomi Kawarazuka is a scientist and social anthropologist based in Hanoi, Vietnam. She holds a Ph.D. in Development Studies. At CIP, her primary role is to uncover invisible gender barriers that arise from male-oriented technology development, research design, and scaling approaches, which disadvantage women farmers. She forms interdisciplinary teams to explore structural constraints and opportunities for the adoption of agricultural technologies and adaptation to climate change. Nozomi’s commitment to gender in agricultural development stems from her experience working in the Lake Victoria region of Kenya, where fishing communities faced poverty and exploitation of fishery resources exacerbated by hidden gender inequalities.

Currently, her geographical focus is Asia, although she also engages with projects in Africa and Latin America. She is enthusiastic about promoting women in science and provides mentorship support to Ph.D. students and female scientists from the global south.
