Biography

Sunil Chaudhari is a dedicated potato breeder based in Da Lat, Vietnam. He holds a Ph.D. in Genetics and Plant Breeding, with experience managing legume breeding programs at the World Vegetable Center (WorldVeg) and a groundnut breeding program for Asia at the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT). With expertise in plant science and deploying genomic tools in breeding programs, Sunil transitioned to CIP in 2022. At CIP, he leads potato breeding innovations for tropical and subtropical environments across South Asia and Southeast Asia from Vietnam.

Sunil spearheads the Collaborative Breeding of Five Tropically Adapted Potato Varieties (TAP5), a public-private partnership R&D program focused on developing improved potato varieties well-suited for tropical and subtropical climates for both fresh and processing market segments. Dedicated to applying his diverse and innovative skills on a global scale, Sunil contributes to sustainable agriculture and addresses challenges in crop improvement. He is particularly passionate about research that tackles current and emerging food security issues due to climate change.
