Rapid urbanization is putting growing pressure on food systems, particularly across Africa and Asia. By 2050, nearly 70% of the world’s population is expected to live in cities, increasing the need for food systems that are nutritious, affordable, safe and sustainable.

Long and inefficient supply chains contribute significantly to food loss and waste. In East Africa, an estimated 40% of harvested potato and sweetpotato is lost before reaching consumers, while around 30% of tomatoes and leafy vegetables face similar losses.

This webinar will explore how science-based innovations, circular business models, partnerships and effective governance can help reduce food loss and waste, strengthen urban food systems, and create opportunities for women and youth. It will also highlight policy and investment opportunities, building on the African Union’s target to reduce post-harvest losses by 50% by 2035.
