Purple Fleshed Sweetpotato

Purple Fleshed Sweetpotato (PFSP)

This subset contains sixteen purple-fleshed sweetpotato accessions selected from the entire cultivated sweetpotato collection conserved at the International Potato Center (CIP) genebank. In order to build this subset, the germplasm was reviewed to select material that was available for national and international distribution and had flesh and purple skin color to select a diverse set of PFSP germplasm. Considering the known nutritional and agricultural value of sweetpotatoes with purple flesh color containing minerals, vitamins, and antioxidants, especially anthocyanins, the purpose of this germplasm set is to facilitate users easy access to PFSP material. All farmers, researches, and breeders interested in this type of characteristics would benefit from ordering and evaluating this subset.
