The Genebank at the International Potato Center (CIP) conserves, characterizes and distributes wild and cultivated potato germplasm. In June 2019, 403 accessions classified as advanced and improved potato varieties were maintained in the genebank. Based on users’ preferences and national and international frequency of distribution records in the Genebank, the top 20 most distributed improved varieties and advanced breeding lines of potato we selected for this sub-set.

The wild and cultivated potato germplasm diversity at CIP is a global public good under the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (ITPGRFA). Thus, all materials are distributed using a Standard Material Transfer Agreement (SMTA) for use in research, training, and breeding.
