Yanali Sabu: Knowledge yields sweetpotato profits

“The second year we learned how to plant better and got three times the amount of income.”

“I have earned more money from OFSP compared to other crops. From my quarter acre I harvested enough roots to fill up three motorkings (tricycles). In the coming season, I plan to expand to an acre.

The first year we had weevils and then the rains came and things didn’t turn out the way we wanted them to. We didn’t sell much and we didn’t get the prices we expected. We got frustrated. The second year we learned how to plant better and got three times the amount of income.”

“We didn’t have the knowledge in 2015 and our production was low. We were disappointed about the price we got. We were not able to get a fair price. Sometimes the farmers market is good but then it wasn’t.”
