Four CIP Scientists, Vivian Polar, Sarah Mayanja, Chalmers Mulwa, and Trent Blare participated in the CGIAR Gender Exchange hosted by CIP and held in Lima the first week of October 2024 with roughly 60 fellow researchers from across the centers. As the CGIAR is going through the process of establishing the Science Programs, this year’s Geder Exchange was adapted from past years to have an impact on the CGIAR’s new research agenda. So, rather than being a conference to share gender research with fellow colleagues across the centers, this year’s exchange was dedicated with writing briefs for each of the Science Programs to ensure that gender and social inclusion are integral to the Science Programs.
The writing teams are currently working on peer reviews of the briefs to have finalized drafts to be submitted to the Science Programs in early February 2025. Please be on the look out for these briefs to provide insights on ensuring that the Science Programs are inclusive of gender that can be applied in each of the Science Programs we work in. Vivan and Chalmers are part of the Genetic Innovation writing team. Sarah is a member of the Sustainable Farming writing team. Trent serves as the coleader for the Sustainable Diets and Nutrition and on the Scientific Committee for the Exchange.
The Gender Accelerator is also planning the next CGIAR Gender Conference to be held in South Africa October 7th through the 9th where you can showcase both completed and ongoing research on gender and social inclusion. The website with a portal to submit abstracts for the conference will go live next month, February 2025. We look forward to seeing many of you in South Africa.
