The Potato Young Scientists Forum, jointly organized by the Key Laboratory of Potato Biology of Yunnan Province and the Key Laboratory of Cassava Germplasm Resources Protection and Utilization of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and hosted by the Potato Professional Committee of the Chinese Tropical Crop Society, was successfully held in Mangshi, Yunnan from November 30th to December 4th.
The forum invited 17 experts, including Huang Sanwen, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, single satellite professor, winner of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, Professor Song Botao, director of the Key Laboratory of Potato Biology and Biotechnology of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Areas; and Professor Dong Shameng, distinguished professor of Changjiang Scholars, to make a special report. 27 young scientists, including Zhang Chunzhi, researcher of Shenzhen Genome Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, made expert keynote reports.
CCCAP researcher Li Jieping was invited to give a keynote report titled “The variation of StZIP12, a transporter gene that regulates zinc concentration in potato tubers.” The report shared the research progress of CCCAP’s research team in using wild-relative potato materials to explore the alleles of zinc transporter StZIP12, and studied the key alleles of StZIP12. The research results will be used to develop molecular markers for zinc content in potato juice and effectively accelerate the breeding of zinc bio enhanced potatoes.
More than 200 scientists from domestic potato, cassava, sweetpotato and other potato research areas gathered in the “City of Dawn” (Mangshi). They exchanged the latest research progress of the three major potato varieties in China, built a positive academic exchange platform for the three major potato varieties, effectively promoted the exchange of scientific researchers in the field of potato research, promoted the scientific and technological innovation of potato varieties, and had an important impact on the development of staple crops of potato crops in China and played the role of potato crops in the “the Belt and Road” national strategy.
