Regional Cryohubs for Recalcitrant Crops: A Template for Success!
The International Potato Center (CIP) is pleased to host a dedicated side event during the Plant Treaty Meeting in Lima, bringing together conservation leaders, scientists, and policymakers to explore how cryopreservation is transforming the future of global crop diversity. This session will highlight CIP’s pioneering work in safeguarding recalcitrant and vegetatively propagated crops through cryogenic technologies.
At CIP, we believe that conservation is not only about preserving the past—it is about unlocking the potential of crop diversity for future generations. During this event, experts from CIP and the CGIAR Genebank Platform will share the journey from early collecting missions to today’s advanced cryopreservation systems, including CIP’s CryoVault and the emerging Latin American Cryo Hub. Participants will gain insights into the science, innovation, and regional collaboration models that are strengthening the global conservation system.
We invite you to join us for this important discussion and explore how regional cryohubs can enhance global food security. The session will conclude with a networking reception, offering space for exchanges among researchers, policymakers, and partners committed to protecting crop diversity for a more resilient world.
