CIP at 2024 United Nations Biodiversity Conference of the Parties (COP16)

The 2024 United Nations Biodiversity Conference (COP16) will bring together global leaders to review progress on the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, following its adoption at COP15. Discussions will focus on aligning national biodiversity strategies, advancing resource mobilization, and finalizing a mechanism for fair and equitable sharing of benefits from digital sequence information on genetic resources.

CIP’s participation at COP16 aims to emphasize the role of biodiversity in achieving our 2030 science goals, particularly through our genebank and leadership in cryopreservation. Additionally, CIP will highlight the importance of root, tuber, and banana crops for global food security, climate resilience, and poverty reduction.
