On October 12, Dr. Simon Heck, Director General of the International Potato Center (CIP), played a pivotal role in a high-level meeting between the leadership of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) and the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS). The meeting, which included CAAS President Wu Kongming and other senior officials, focused on strengthening collaboration and advancing key global agricultural initiatives.
Key topics of discussion included deepening strategic partnerships, promoting the international large-scale scientific initiative G2P, enhancing South-South cooperation, and fostering China-Africa trilateral collaboration. Both parties reached broad consensus on these important areas.
Dr. Heck expressed appreciation for the longstanding support CIP has received from CAAS and emphasized the importance of continuing this cooperation to advance the global potato industry. He highlighted CIP’s eagerness to work more closely with CAAS, driving joint initiatives that contribute to sustainable development, food security, and the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
