NEXTGEN offers Travel Award for Young Female Cassava Scientist

The Next Generation Cassava Breeding (NEXTGEN) Project will support early career female African cassava scientists to attend the World Congress on Root and Tuber Crops meeting in Nanning China from October 5-10, 2015, jointly organized by the Global Cassava Partnership for the 21st Century (GCP21) and the International Society for Tropical Root Crops (ISTRC).This travel award will cover costs associated with attending the conference, including economy airfare, conference registration, meals, and accommodation.

Congress Highlights

Formal plenary sessions in Days One and Six; eight concurrent oral scientific sessions offering more than 250 presentations, and three poster sessions in Days Two, Three and Five; evening round tables and workshops on Days Two and Five; field trip on Day Four with visit to Chinese farmers, GCRI research station and the largest cassava processing factory in the world, and a Chinese night with traditional dances and a typical Chinese Banquet; conclusions and Press Conference will be on Day Six. In addition the Congress will be preceded and followed by professional, technical and strategic satellite meeting which will bring together an unprecedented crowd of professional in the field. Finally, the Congress will host a business exhibit all along the six days of the gathering to link scientists and industrial developers.

Congress Objectives

  • The Congress will facilitate discourse amongst key root and tuber crops stakeholders,farmers, end-users, researchers, and donor agencies;

  • The Congress will promote discussions around more than 24 topics ranging from genomics to value addition;

  • The Congress will constitute a forum for all sorts of people belonging to science,technology, private sector and policy makers to debate about the best way to improve these crops in the future;

  • The Congress will facilitate the identification of solutions for major bottlenecks in the production and will propose new technical solutions to resolve problems…
