The Future of Roots and Tubers under One CGIAR

Root and tuber crops play a vital role in food security and resilience. Locally produced and consumed, they are often spared the price fluctuations of internationally traded staples such as maize and corn, and as such, offer a development pathway to improved nutrition and long-term sustainable growth for the 300 million resource-poor farmers who depend on them for their livelihoods.

This event will include three short presentations that highlight innovations in CGIAR root and tuber crop research, that can help respond to the ongoing and rapidly evolving food crisis. These innovations will be presented in terms of how they fit into the new CGIAR structure which includes more holistic and systems-orientated research with partners to respond to evolving food crises. Presentations will be followed by a panel discussion and Q&A with the audience.

Topics will include:

  • Seed systems
  • Gender inclusion
  • Post-harvest losses
