‘Kamote’ is ‘sweetpotato,’ it is not ‘sweet potato’

“Kamote” is commonly known in English as “sweet potato,” one of the world’s most important and popular food crops. So why should it be spelled as “sweetpotato”?

The Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCAARRD) is supporting the change in spelling to “sweetpotato” to promote its uniqueness—the very reason why the initiative was proposed and adopted in 1989, its news release said.
