Biography
Birhanu Biazin Temesgen is Country Manager and Project Manager in Ghana. Birhanu has more than 13 years of experience in action research focusing on dryland agriculture, agricultural water management, and integrated natural resource management. He has developed experience in managing integrated climate-smart Agriculture-Nutrition-Marketing projects in Africa. Before joining CIP in Ghana in 2022, he worked for the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) as an irrigated agriculture value chain expert and the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) as a project coordinator. Before joining the CGIAR, he was working as a lecturer at Hawassa University, teaching courses like rainwater harvesting, irrigation and drainage, and soil and water conservation.
At CIP Ghana, he manages the CIP Ghana portfolio and an integrated climate-smart Agriculture-Nutrition-Marketing-Finance and gender transformative project running from 2022 to 2026. Birhanu is interested in climate-smart agriculture, solar-powered irrigation, and value chain development for dryland agriculture systems.
Birhanu has got his PhD in water management for dryland agriculture and MSc in soil and water conservation, both from Wageningen University in the Netherlands.
