Biography

Godwill Makunde holds a PhD in Plant Breeding, MSc Agronomy and BSc (Hons) Crop Science. Godwill is a sweetpotato breeder, based in Mozambique. Godwill has assisted in the release of twelve sweetpotato varieties by NARIs in southern Africa. He has practical field experience in development of targetted product profiles, high throughput phenotyping for (i) abiotic and biotic stresses, (ii) nutritional quality and textural traits; data management and report writing, capacity building of students, partners and staff. In his early life, he released the first two high iron dry bean varieties in Zimbabwe and participated in establishing sustainable seed systems for nonhybrid crops. Dr. Makunde earned leadership and mentoring skills for young professionals at the Department of Research & Specialist Services, Zimbabwe where he was responsible for coordination and guiding research and development activities of legume crops. He has excellent experience on international and national agricultural research and development systems.
