Biography

Israel Navarrete is an associate scientist based in Quito, Ecuador. He holds a Ph.D. in Agronomy from Wageningen University, where his research focused on the degeneration of seed potatoes in the fields of Ecuadorian producers. His work revealed that maintaining seed potato quality is a multifaceted challenge requiring interdisciplinary solutions and collaboration among various stakeholders. Currently, he is affiliated with CIP, where he addresses issues related to the monitoring, conservation, and utilization of agrobiodiversity, as well as seed systems and scientific support. In his projects, he advocates for the use and design of portfolios of options tailored to different socio-ecological contexts.
