Biography

Rainer Vollmer is an associate scientist based in Lima, Peru. He holds an M.Sc. in Plant Breeding from the National Agrarian University of Peru. He leads the cryobank and the in vitro propagation group at CIP. He has co-led three major projects on cryobanking and method improvement for cryopreservation. Rainer has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals on cryopreservation and in vitro propagation, as well as some book chapters. Recently, he co-founded the Cryo-network Initiative for the long-term conservation of plant genetic resources in Latin America, which has active participation from over ten countries.
