Linking Farmers to Agricultural Innovations for Improved Livelihoods is the theme of this year’s Kilimo Biashara Expo 2025, held from March 13th – 14th at the KALRO Seeds Headquarters in Thika, Kenya. The expo provided a platform for Technologies for African Agricultural Transformation (TAAT) Orange-fleshed Sweetpotato (OFSP) Compact to showcase how its innovations can drive economic growth and improve nutrition. TAAT exhibition stand was awarded exhibitor of the year for showcasing transformative technologies designed to boost productivity, enhance nutrition, and improve livelihoods.
High-level government officials, private sector players, researchers, and farmers visited the OFSP Compact stand and interacted with transformative innovations aimed at enhancing productivity and food security. International Potato Center (CIP) OFSP Compact exhibition showcased a selection of climate-smart OFSP varieties, specially bred to thrive in diverse agroecological zones while offering superior nutritional benefits. The exhibition also featured OFSP puree, a vitamin A-rich product that serves as a versatile and nutritious ingredient for baking, weaning foods, and confectionery.
Participants had the opportunity to sample OFSP-based recipes, including chapatis, mandazis, and cakes, showcasing how OFSP can be easily incorporated into everyday diets. In addition to root-based products, we highlighted the nutritional value of sweetpotato leaves, which are rich in iron and vitamins, encouraging dietary diversification for improved food security. To address child malnutrition, we introduced the Healthy Baby Toolkit, which integrates OFSP-based nutrition into maternal and child health programs, promoting better dietary practices in rural communities. Through interactive nutritional messaging, we engaged participants with educational materials and discussions, emphasizing OFSP’s role in combating malnutrition, boosting immunity, and enhancing overall health.

The Exhibitor of the Year Award at the Kilimo Biashara Expo 2025 recognition highlights the impact of our collective efforts in driving agricultural innovation and improving livelihoods. Through collaborative efforts, we can scale up these solutions, ensuring that smallholder farmers have access to the resources and knowledge they need to thrive. The award is not just a win for TAAT but a shared commitment in scaling up solutions that ensure smallholder farmers have access to the resources and knowledge they need to thrive.
