More than ever before, the world is taking notice of Andean Root and Tuber Crops (ARTCs), their high nutritional content, and the importance they give to overall food security in the Andean region. Scientists from the International Potato Center (known by its Spanish acronym CIP) continue to study and identify the values and characteristics of these extraordinary roots and tubers with the aim of increasing the outputs of healthy root and tuber crops and spreading the knowledge of their nutritional benefits.

China Vice Minister of Agriculture Visits CIP-China Center for Asia and Pacific
On February 6, 2013, Mr. Niu Dun, Vice Minister of the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) and five other high officials from the MOA visited CIP-China Center for Asia and Pacific (CCCAP) and the CCCAP preparation office. The Director of CCCAP, Mr. LU Xiaoping, chaired the meeting and reported upon the work that had been done since 2010 by CCCAP and the CCCAP preparation office while also signaling the challenges that lie ahead. Vice Minister Niu, who has long been a strong supporter of CIP and the CCCAP, encouraged the team to continue the exemplary work. The visit came two days before Chinese Lunar New Year, and Vice Minister Niu took time following the meeting to wish the CCCAP team a prosperous Year of the Snake.
